Breeding has started, and I am delighted to say that I utilized AI to breed 80% of my cow herd this year! Hopefully, they all think pregnant thoughts and all of them catch. I am excited for the diversity in my 2027 calf crop.
My 2026 calves have been growing like crazy, and I am excited to see them continue to grow over the summer. It will be hard to pick who stays and who is for sale in the fall.
I have also registered for the Wild Rose Classic in Stettler once again this year with a smaller string, but still anticipating attending, participating, and showing there.
Talk soon,
~ Sarah

Hello, and welcome. My name is Sarah Bowman, and I am the owner and operator of Sturgeon River Purebreds. When I am not showing cattle or farming alongside my parents, you can find me on horseback, studying, or behind a camera. I'm newer to the photography business, but I have photographed cattle for Skyline Simmentals, Sky Virtue Ranch Inc., Sturgeon River Stock Farm, and my own cattle. Feel free to contact me if you'd like to book me or see references! Along with cows, I own chickens and ducks. For more information, click here. I have also been an active 4-H member for 12 years now. I have held the positions of beef council representative, vice president, treasurer, assistant treasurer, photographer, and beef district secretary. 4-H is a HUGE part of my life, and I wouldn't be who I am today without this amazing program. To help further develop my cow/calf knowledge, I am a certified Cow/Calf Technician through the Green Certificate Program. I worked as a Work Experience Student at the Onoway Vet Clinic and part-time at the Perlich Bros Auction Mart just outside Lethbridge in Fall 2022. My summer job for 2023 - 2025 was at Woodland Farms. In February 2021, I took my AI course at Lakeland College. I graduated from high school in 2022 and am currently attending the University of Lethbridge in the Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Studies program. I would like to pursue a career as a Beef Nutritionist. During the summer, I also show at various local cattle shows. This industry has its ups and downs, but I don't ever want to leave it!
"Cows that perform on pasture and in the show ring"
The above is what has driven me to start my business from day one because I see a gap in the show-stock world. I want to provide clients with an animal that will succeed in the show ring but also show performance on pasture through various desirable traits. The show cattle today are only bred for how well they perform in the show ring and I want to change that. I extensively use AI for all my purebreds and for my commercial yearling heifers, to help select the best of the best from the Simmental breed.
