Skithøla

The landowner wished to offer a place where visiter could rest, prepare or grill a meal. Our idea was to build in relation to the existing building while giving it a contemporary touch. The building consists of a traditional framework, with a roof that opens up more towards the river. This roof creates a transition between the dense forest and the open space of the river.

The objective was to design a convivial space around a central piece composed of the grill, the hood and the table. The furniture is thought in order to have a piece of single functional equipment. In order to keep a continuity between the existing and the new, we extended the circulation space on the west part of the building with a roof overhang that allows you to travel from one space to another while being protected from bad weather. Our aim was to use as many natural elements of the site as possible. We used stones for the foundations, flat stones for the path and gravel and sand from the river for the base soil of the project.
