Workshop 1.0 - Day 3
19th March, 2022
19th March, 2022
Day 3 is a long day that starts at 10:00 and ends at 21:00. The morning and afternoon are dedicated to making the final works with a reception party in the evening for participants to present and communicate their learnings, process, and final works.
Participants worked full speed to finish their works and maps for the exhibition.
Participants created their tearoom as the main exhibition space and used the kitchen walls to exhibit their circular flow maps.
Documentation is key as the products are destined for disassembly.
(Side note: Participants created a lifted stage to exhibit their works by raising the tatami. Quick, easy and reversible renovations!)
In the evening of Day 3, a semi-public exhibition and reception party was held at Studio A-lot-of-things.
The aim was encouraging the participants to reach a level of completeness in their works and organize their process and thoughts by creating an opportunity for them to present their work and process to an audience.
The guests were Dr. Motoko Uchimaru, the CEO of colourloop, Design MA students from KIT, and family and friends of the participants.

[English Translation]
As a place to practice Circular Design, we have created a collaborative space for five people based on the concept of "Neo Teahouse". The word "Neo" has two meanings.
First, in terms of the purpose of use, this tearoom is a place where each of the five people can easily spend time together. It is also a good place to enjoy tea or to make coffee.
Secondly, the products in this space are mainly made of waste fabric reinforced plastic sheets (WFRPS) provided by colorloop to support a circularity-oriented lifestyle.
The design must be able to be disassembled and fit into a flat pack (postal pack). The main material is the sheet material of colorloop.
The main material is the sheet material of colorloop.
The product must be recyclable and compatible with the service.
We created the products with these constraints in mind. In researching the characteristics of the material and creating prototypes, we tried to avoid making waste materials as much as possible, and sought the ideal of circular design from the manufacturing stage.
We hope that this exhibition will encourage you to think about the relationship between yourself and things, and between yourself and services from various perspectives.

Participants exhibited their “Circular Flow Map 2.0” on the walls of the kitchen area.
Participants edited and updated their maps made during the Day 2 exercise based on the group discussion on Day 2 and additional research.

Participants gave presentations on their design process, final work and Circular Flow Maps to the guests.
▲Uchimaru-san listened closely to the participants’ presentations.
After the presentations from the participants, each of the MA Design students from KIT gave feedback on the final works and Circular Flow Maps.
We highly appreciated their feedback as they were valuable for the participants, providing them with new starting points and perspectives for further research and practice. We saw the influence of the feedback in Day 4 when we held a reflection and future thinking session with the participants.
▲A guest MA student giving feedback on the participants’ work and presentations. All feedback was recorded and later shared with the participants.
Uchimaru-san, after her kind feedback to the participants, continued by presenting her projects and other new materials she is developing with colourloop.
This session was very informative as she brought samples which were passed around to both participants and other guests. The participants asked her questions about the materials, such as how it is produced, and about the hurdles she faces.
◁Participants and guests gathered around Uchimaru-san sharing her story and passing around her new experiments.
