Designer Concept Presentations

Sound

Every character is expressed with a different instrument (i.e. Jacquimo- accordion, underground characters- bassoon, deep instrument, Thumbelina- chimes, etc.)

Musical undertones playing such as Vivaldi’s 4 seasons, same theme in different styles, Beetle Ball burlesque.

Set

Needs to meet with actors to see space and potential. Potentially using digital backgrounds.

Makeup and Hair

Collaborated with Costumes on hair accesories. Queen has a crown and beetles have hats with antenna.

Swallow- orange and blue. Representing both swallow colors and bridge between Thumbelina and Cornelius. Thumbelina- blue eyeshadow and lipstick, some fantasy but also realistic, changes at Beetle Ball and then changes back. Similar simple fantastical designs for fairies.

Actors who change characters have makeup for their first character, then adds elements to change to the next character, and so on. Lots of quick changes, may need to make adjustments if there’s not enough time. We’ll look for ways to incorporate changes into action of the show.

Lighting

Both digital and physical lighting screens to change lighting for seasons. Colored film samples used in spotlights as an option to put over actors’ cameras. Blue during winter, gold/yellow during warmer seasons.

Meeting with lighting professor this week to discuss options. Plan to work with Kymberly to explore OBS options.

Costumes

Collaborated with Makeup and Hair on hair accesories. Queen has a crown and beetles have hats with antenna. When Thumbelina’s hat comes off, it’s revealed they were faking her antenna. Ears for Ms Fieldmouse.

2 wings completed, working on Thumbelina’s. Connor getting Mr Mole’s costume.

Swallow wearing poncho with feathers. Actors playing multiple characters wear black and put stuff on top to differentiate them. Making Thumbelina’s dress and sash for Tabitha.

Vocal Coach

Experiment with zoom quality of songs. Record actors in a studio on campus if it doesn’t match up over zoom.

Tech

Exploring OBS, talked with Pollyanna and figured out how to use it. Characters in their own pictures and frames. Can bring actors on and off herself by setting cues.

Going to sit in on rehearsals later in the week to use actors’ screens in OBS.
