How do they treat you? How do you treat them? Depends on what they can do for me. Useful- treat well, not useful- wouldn’t give time of day.
Beetle ball? Nightclub, vegas style casino. Owner of it
Why kidnap her? What catches your attention with Thumbelina? What holds it? How is she different? Because I think she’ll draw a crowd, has potential as an entertainer, can improve the beetle ball. Voice draws him (it can draw a crowd). Innocence and sweetness sets her apart.
What happens in the meantime between when you kidnap Thumbelina and Jacquimo comes? Trying to take her to the BB, can’t carry her fast enough so I cut and run and see what happens. Kidnap her second time and she goes to perform? Sold this show business lifestyle, here’s where you’re going- she wouldn’t be so upset about being kicked out if she wasn’t excited about it
Feelings toward Thumbelina? Didn’t get reaction he was going for so she’s no longer useful -> sorry you’re gone. Probs thought he was fond of her while she was useful

Worst thing done? Kidnapping, got involved with beetle mafia. Borrowed money from them to start Beetle Ball and owes it back. Thinks Thumbelina is his big break. Goes with which way the wind blows to stay in good graces

Social standing? Big fish in a little pond situation. Richest guy in neighborhood.
How do they treat you? How do you treat them? Everyone treats him with differential treatment which he expects. He’s polite to them in their station.
What catches your attention with Thumbelina? What holds it? How is she different? She’s young, pretty, most lively thing he’s seen. Symbolizes all of his failings- she’s excited about life, proactive.
What is your biggest value? Consistency

Have you been in love before? Had unrequited love but didn’t have bravery or initiative to do anything
How did he get rich? Staying out of trouble, like an accountant. Slow and steady method. Have more than enough to provide for me and others. Isn’t scrooge.
Experience with the sun? Dug too quickly/ high. Sun was out and frightened daylights out me and I hurried back quickly.
Reputation you wish you had? Satisfied with reputation he has, feel that he has to act a certain way to maintain it

How long was the engagement? Did how you see her change? Mole had Ms Fieldmouse chaperone meeting between them- prim and proper, we’re going to do it the right way. Frustrated that her melancholy doesn’t lessen. Old fashioned views on what married life would be like. Expecting her to bring vigor and excitement into life but expects everyone to have same expectations.

Relationship with Ms. Fieldmouse? Seems amicable, like she’s a housekeeper.
Every villain is a hero in their own eyes. Who are you a hero to/ what makes you a hero? Isn’t a hero, he might have been at one time but doesn’t feel that way anymore. Feels like he could’ve been the hero if he’d been braver.
Slow, afraid to go out his door. Hyper-conservative, scared to change anything about his life, scared of own shadow. Not a great conversationalist. It’s dangerous, stop her from going where it’s dangerous. Possessive- part of inner fear -> if you touch, you might break -> break might not be able to replace. A little possessive of losing people- sees unrequited love as losing so goes to other extreme. Victorian era poshness, sense of propriety. Outside hole isn’t very important.
Of two characters, Mole is most genuine in affection toward Thumbelina. Not mutual. Cares about her.
