Reader's Responses
Competency as a Self-Directed Learner
When a learner engages in deliberate practice as a means of improvement, and consistently perseveres and takes ownership of learning, reader's responses reveal the following:
an ongoing and meaningful dialog with the text featuring text connections, parenthetically cited passages placed in context, and questions rather than summary
interaction with a wide range of increasingly complex print and non-print literary texts from many periods/movements and in many genres
an effort to develop a better understanding of oneself and the many dimensions of the human experience
the application of a wide range of reading strategies to comprehend, interpret, evaluate, analyze, and critique texts.
