The Infosec Club is a club of Akashic Mission. Our membership is information technology and security students. We learn while looking for technology solutions to help tech students as well as all students. We like to host industry expert speakers, mentors, and advisors.

Discord Announcement

Hello @everyone this announcement is a little late, but better than never right! The National Cyber League is a collegiate InfoSec competition consisting of both Blue Team and Red Team challenges. As a Capture the Flag (CTF) style game the teams work so either exploit or defend and patch vulnerabilities. Gaining points for each "Flag" the teams are ranked by the number of points they obtain.


This Announcement is to inform everyone that our friends at the Marshall University Collegiate Cyber Defense Club (CCDC) WON THIS YEARS COMPETITION!!! Let's all congratulate them and learn what we can from their competition.

New Logo, Facebook Page, and Discord Channel

IGIG @danormunk was commissioned to design a logo for the club! The logo is now being used for the club's new Discord channel created by The Infosec Club President.

The Infosec Club also has a new Facebook page and associated Facebook group.

WV Digital Festival

Club Members attended WV Digital Festival hosted at Marshall University

Presenter Brian Morgan demonstrated designing professional portfolios using a Bootstrap template and Atom editor.

Competitive gaming opportunities were a topic in one presentation.

Students also learned about copyright legalities, especially involved in social media posts.

Mathcon 2019

Club Members presented at a meeting of County mathematics teachers.

Club President presented on the topics of information security including man-in-the-middle attacks. Also introduced lesser known OS alternatives.

Club Members demonstrated how Math is used in computer sciences.

Presentations were well received by all math teachers and Club has been invited to visit and present at some local schools.

Videoconference with Information Security Expert

January 9, 2019

Club President's Summary:

The videoconference with information security expert Dan Williams was both interesting and informative. The attendants enjoyed the conference and their questions were fully answered. Attendants found the expert quite knowledgeable in his field. The conference was rated 10/10 would again.

Topics discussed included technology needs for AFA CyberPatriot Team, competition strategies, and team motivational techniques. Education best practice tips and tricks were also advised as well as a general Infosec field discussion.

As a result of the conference, importance of team member specialization in chosen fields was reinforced. Defense strategy was outlined.

As a final note, the team's path forward is to complete membership requirements and prepare for competitions.

Meeting Thursday December 20, 2018

  • The meeting was called to order by the Club President.

  • Club Members decided on TheInfosecClub.com for the domain name.

  • Mx. Campbell proposed videoconferencing with an industry expert acquaintance in mid-January. Club members constructed questions that Campbell e-mailed to the expert to prepare for the webconference interview. The videoconference will be held at 12:20 PM on January 9 using Google Hangouts in Room 208A.

  • Members reported progress in online learning platforms. One member is 40% complete in Python on Codecademy.com and obtained all micro-certifications recommended in the previous meeting.

  • Members practiced detecting vulnerabilities as part of an online game.

Meeting Thursday December 13

  • The Club President convened the meeting on schedule.

  • Club Members discussed fundraising ideas to raise money for technology needs, attending the Digital Festival at Marshall Univerity in January, registration for CyberPatriot in April, and other expenses as they arise.

  • Members are encouraged to obtain micro-certifications in Enduser PII, Enduser Physical Security, and Enduser Mobile Device Security from Cybrary.IT

  • Mx. Campbell passed out permission slips for a Conference after school in January as well as the Digital Festival.

  • Mr. Smart, the Technical Advisor, joined Club Members to visit the Collegiate Cyber Defense Team at Marshall University in Huntington, WV

  • Club Members observed solutions and results demonstrated by Marshall University Digital Forensics students in CCDC.

  • Professor Brundy gave advice about how to create and participate in a Cyber Patriot Team.

  • Team Members had a dinner meeting at Rooster's in Huntington

Meeting November 15

  • Club Members visited the Collegiate Cyber Defense Team at Marshall University in Huntington, WV.

  • CCDC Members presented about Information Defense strategies as well as CCDC activities and competitions.

  • Members practiced learning Linux Shell Commands in Under The Wire on WarGames http://underthewire.tech/wargames.htm

  • Club Members visited the dedicated server room and observed a security vulnerability compromised as part of a CCDC demonstration.

  • Club Members were informed about AFA Cyber Patriot by Professor Brundy.

  • Members conferred over a dinner meeting after visiting Marshall's CCDC.
