Who hasn't heard of Disney? Was one of your favorite movies growing up a Disney film? They made classic movies like "Cinderella", "Finding Nemo" and "High School Musical", but there is more to know.
A lot of people have heard of Walt Disney, a pioneer and innovator throughout his lifetime. The other founder is none other than Walt's older brother, Roy O. Disney. Roy was president of the company from1945 to 1968. While Walt handled all the creative decisions, it was Roy finding the money for the projects and managing the growth of licensing the Disney products for consumers.
Since its opening in 1923, the company has not slowed down in their money making efforts. The company is such a large organization that it rakes in just under $83 billion dollars a year. The business makes their money through things like creating and producing films and TV shows, Disney+, owning a handful of television networks, theme parks, and their merchandise.
As of November 2022, Disney may only have 61 feature films, however, they've been able to make exclusive movies on Disney Channel, live action remakes, and animated titles. They've also co-produced Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars movies. They're first film, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" was released in 1937 and they're most recent film, "Wish" premiered in November 2023.
It's hard to imagine Disney as anything other than the films they've made of the six different park locations around the world. However, Disney has their own TV channels which many young adults now grew up on. Disney Channel was a staple for family households and continues to be on cable.
Disney's current CEO Robert Iger is no stranger to Disney. He was appointed back in 2005 and despite his retirement announcement, he came back as CEO in November 2022. His contract expires at the end of 2026 and has ensured that during his second term as CEO he'll find a viable replacement. However, it's uncertain whether that search has started or produced any results so far.
