The NPR Program Stream airs recordings of recent NPR programs after they air live on NPR Member stations, and NPR may interrupt the stream's schedule for news events. To always hear live broadcasts, listen to your station, online or on air.

I have a brand new 13 Mini, operating since yesterday. This morning on my walk I listened to streaming radio as I did with my prior iphones (going back to #4!), and it worked fine. However now it doesn't! It will connect for a second, and then lose it again, repeatedly. This has been the case both with strong wifi as well as with wifi turned off (no change), and with several different sources. Any ideas? Suggestions?

Which app are you listening to the streaming music with? Have you tried force closing the app? See this, Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch - Apple Support Then power the iPhone off and back on again and try the app again.

My local radio station has an app, as well as NPR. Both behave the same. I'm afraid that shutting down both apps and powering off the phone didn't help. Apparently both apps are having trouble connecting to their streams; the connection flickers off and on as well. I tried several other similar apps, and see the same behavior. Speedtest gives me 472mbps down/21.7 up on my home wifi.

I love 'Simple Radio' ... It's great to listen to all the time ... Best part is, I can pick radio stations from anywhere anytime ... The streaming is perfect ... No losing signal or freezing ... Bottom line ... Love it!

I wanted to keep up with my football team while traveling. Found this app while searching the App Store. Did not disappoint! No annoying buffering. Very easy to use. Has also allowed me to explore other radio stations around the country. Nicely done!!

I downloaded Simple Radio so I could stream my favorite public radio station during my hour and a half bus commute. It works great, with no muss or fuss, remembering what I was listening to last time. Other apps seem to put promoting other stations ahead of letting me get to my favorite station quickly and easily.

HTML5 doesn't specify what audio formats (whether progressive or streaming) the player must support. That's up for the browser to determine, based on demand and implementation feasibility. In earlier drafts, we tried to specify a few baseline codecs and formats that all browsers must support, but each of the possible formats caused some browser vendor to refuse to implement it.

well I've checked ogg_vorbis stations. I downloaded some playlist and opened it in notepad, and copy out the url of a stream. So if you want to test it just copy this to empty file and name it something.html.

Finally, as far as I know, no one has implemented a playlist parser for the audio element (the spec only mentions audio files, not playlists), which is a problem here, as even when you click "listen" you get a playlist rather than a raw stream.

I am wondering if audio streams from internet radio stations can (and do) contain song information such as title and artist? I suppose there are many formats that may or may not support this, so 'Yes but only if x and y' would be a valid answer.

ICY metadata is an ancient hack basically as there is no other way to do streaming metadata for MP3 streams and it is what the stream uses, but we do not yet support it over https. I did not have time yet to fix it.

To listen now, click the green play button. If you're on a computer, you'll see it at the top left of the screen. If you're on a mobile device, it will be located at the bottom left of the screen. Click the "All Streams" button on the right side of the audio player to select the stream you want. The stream will keep playing as you navigate our website, or leave it open in a browser tab.

The Replay stream is a way for listeners to hear past episodes of Vermont Public's signature music shows. It contains an 8-hour loop of the two most recent episodes of My Place (one hour each), All The Traditions (three hours each) and Friday Night Jazz (three hours each). Find more information and frequently asked questions.

Vermont Public provides live streaming feeds of House and Senate proceedings, without editing or commentary. The streams are active when there's a meeting in the House or Senate and the chamber microphones are turned on; otherwise, the streams are quiet.

For more stream options, or if you prefer a "pop up" player in your browser, use the Audio Player. This player includes low-bandwidth options, i.e. 24k MP3, as well as higher quality audio streams, AAC+ and Flash.

Vermont Public offers our live streams in several different bit rates. Generally speaking, streams with higher bit rates produce better sound than streams with lower rates. This bit rate is measured in kilobits per second (kbps), abbreviated to "k." While higher bit rate streams sound better, they also require higher bandwidth internet connections.

Listeners with high-speed internet, such as from fiber network or cable broadband, can usually listen to the higher bit rate streams, e.g. 64k, 96k and 128k. Listeners on DSL and satellite should start with the 64k stream options but may have to use 24k when their connections are slow.

If you're listening on a mobile device, and not using WiFi or an unlimited data plan, you may incur charges for from your carrier for mobile data usage (this applies to any streaming service, not just Vermont Public). In this case, you can use the 24 kbps streams, available below and on the Audio Player, to help minimize your data consumption, but be mindful you may incur charges.

Please note that internet speeds can vary for each user and network and can vary depending on time and conditions. Try streams of different bit rates to find the best listening experience for your device and connection. If you experience poor performance with a stream that is usually reliable, try the lower option temporarily. If you have questions, contact us.

MP3 is the most common encoding for digital audio and is supported across the greatest number of browsers and devices. AAC+ is audio coding that delivers higher quality audio at lower bandwidth. Flash is a common internet software platform that we use to deliver the AAC+ streams on devices that don't natively support that format. AAC+ currently works in Safari and Chrome but not all other browsers, while Flash plays in most desktop browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer, Safari, etc.) but not all mobile devices. But if you can listen to AAC or Flash - via the Audio Player, your browser, or some other player - you may notice a richer sound at lower bit rates, especially with music.
