SMTS is proud to be the foremost musical theatre society of Strathclyde University, offering an inclusive and welcoming environment for performers of all levels.
One of our defining features is our Open Chorus Policy, a core part of our production framework. This policy guarantees that every member has the opportunity to perform in the chorus, regardless of their skill level or experience.
If you're looking to challenge yourself and take on a larger role, we highly encourage you to audition when we begin casting for a new show or project. The production team is committed to casting the very best – and that could be you!
To be eligible for principal casting, you must be a registered member of the society. Scroll down to learn how you can get involved and become part of the SMTS family.
If you’d like to get involved in the society as part of our performing cast, we recommend submitting a membership enquiry to the society's board. This is a great opportunity to tell us a bit about yourself or ask any questions you may have before purchasing a membership.
Alternatively, you can purchase your membership directly through our StrathUnion page. Once you’ve joined, we also strongly recommend joining our "Member’s Area" Facebook group (linked in the Contact & Enquiries tab) to stay up to date with rehearsals, events, and other society news.
As mentioned, our Open Chorus Policy ensures that every new member is welcome to participate in the ensemble cast, regardless of their experience or skill level.Principal roles, however, are allocated through auditions conducted by the lead creative directors of the production team assigned to each show or project.
If performing isn’t your thing, consider joining the production team — a vital part of bringing our shows to life!
If you don't know your vocal range/voice type, that is completely fine! We have a free online tool (provided by ToneGym) that can help Identify your range using a quick and easy test. All you need to do is access the website (click below) on a device with a microphone. The test will Identify your range (for example; bass, tenor, alto, soprano, etc...) and show you how your range compares to some notable singers.
