In order to create a strategic plan for the integration of technology, an analysis of the current technology use needs to be done. These are results using several methods of analysis as well as distict and campus documents that contributed to strategic planning.
The chart focuses on the four areas of the new long range plan: Teaching and Learning; Educator Preparation and Development; Leadership, Administration and Instructional Support; and Infrastructure for Technology. In each area, there are levels of progress ranging from Early Tech to Target Tech. The goal for all Texas teachers is to reach the Target Tech level of the STaR Chart. The data from the first two areas feed automatically into the electronic version of the Texas Campus STaR Chart. The data from thelast two areas will be available to campus administrators, but aggregated at the state level and reported separately. Again, the Target Tech level is the goal.
In recent years the state of Texas has required all schools to rate their use of technology in the classroom using the Texas STaR Charts. However that is no longer required and most schools have moved to utilizing an online survey tool to assist all Texas teachers in self-assessing efforts to effectively integrate technology across the curriculum. Apollo Junior High currently uses BrightByte to assess its levels of technology use during the school year.
The SWOT Analysis is used as a strategic planning technique to identify stengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of an organization or business. These results were concluded from my observations and experiences at Apollo for the past two and half years. The threats were more difficult to identify from this perspective.
