Apollo History and Background

Apollo Junior High was founded in 1977 and is one of two feeder schools for Burkner High School of Richardson ISD. It is often referred to now as Apollo STEM academy after its certification in 2018. The Texas STEM School Certification recognizes schools as a model of effective teaching and learning. Our STEM Education faculty is committed to providing equitable access to STEM careers and literacy for a diverse community of learners. The Apollo Junior High Band is the only band in the history of Texas to win the Texas Music EducatorsAssociation Honor Band Competition for three consecutive years of eligibility. In 1998 and 2000, teachers at the school were the recipients of the Edyth May Sliffe Award for excellence inmathematics. The Apollo Junior High Symphony Orchestra received straight 1's when they played at UIL which took place in UNT's Performing Arts Center. The 1st Violins, Violas and Harpist received awards for their outstandingperformance as well. Here is a link to their website: Apollo JH
