In 2019 the Rutter Middle School Story Map team had a very exciting year. The team began with 14 students working on seven projects. After a few weeks the number of students dropped to nine with five projects.
It was during the fall of 2018 Rutter Middle School was recognized by the American Association of Geographers as one of 15 K12 schools in the nation as a case study in using geospatial technology in instruction. As such the school and particular the Team was recognized in the media and at the awards lunch at the CalGIS Conference in March traveling to Fresno. At the CalGIS Conference students of the Team exhibited student final projects completed as part of the Web Mapping Mini Course.
In the results of the 2019 competition it was the first time in the middle school division that a single school had all five of its entries recognized.
In July First Place winners Xavior Munoz and Isiah Thao exhibited at the International GIS Users Conference Map Gallery Reception traveling to San Diego.
