Once, in December
Once, in December, I met a girl with eyes of blue,
She wore some teal tights with her hair all pinned up, too.
Once, in December, she told me I was no good,
But the way her eyes glimmered said she'd love me if she could.
I've been runnin' like a river,
Always rollin' past the pain.
But she made me want to stay there, stop my heart from driftin' away.
There's a'many roads a winding,
But there's only one that I would walk
There's a'many ladies fawning,
But there's only one that I would want.
I started drifting like the snowfall, carried where the cold winds stray-
That woman warmed me like a fire, burning for me to stay
There's a'many reasons keeping me, just as many to let go...
So I left you as fast as that winter breeze, and you left your tears in the snow...
Once, in December... I met a girl with eyes of blue.
Ever since December, I swear, my heart's been bound to you.
"Once, In December" is a story that is deeply inspired by music. We wanted reading this story to feel like listening to an old song that reminds you to dream, long for more and find reasons to see the light.
Each year, during the holidays, i get sick, usually on Christmas. This year, the sickness graciously came a few weeks before. While I was at home, I randomly thought, "wouldn't it be crazy if we could write, code and publish a short movie-like Christmas story before Christmas?"-- It was a passive suggestion, mostly spoken out of curiousity. But as we discussed it more into the dark hours of night, it seemed like this idea was getting too exciting to pass up. That same night, I began writing episode one (act one) as the my writing partner began coding the small bit I had already written. After the first three days, the story was fully written. We weren't fast enough to get it out by christmas, but we are still happy to get it out early january!
To me, it feels like an old friend I never actually met. It was like these characters already existed within me, but their story hadn't been written. I thought I might not feel as connected to them as they were only created in three days, but that couldn't be further from the truth. I become so deeply connected with them in such a short time, genuinely.
We hope this story speaks to someone out there. We hope it can remind you to dream, even in the hardest of times.

Thank you to Ulyana, the incredibly talented and hard-working artist behind the two art pieces created for this story. She kindly agreed to work with us on this last minute project, and without her, this story would definitely not have happened. She brought these characters to life in a way that is so unique to her style and this story; I don't think anyone else could bring them to life like she has. We are both so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with her.
