The PUBLIC COMMENTING PERIOD for the rock crusher air permit has been EXTENDED to August 26!
Please continue to provide comments using the guide below: "HOW TO COMMENT." Numbers always help!
There will be a VIRTUAL PUBLIC MEETING on August 23. We'll provide more information once it becomes available.
Over the past couple of months we certainly have been active as we investigate ways to hold Tinsley accountable. The TDEC system is NOT set up in our favor. We learned this past week that they have applied for an air permit for their rock crusher, which will allow them to make sand:
The permit request was submitted on June 14, and TDEC allows the public to comment for 30 days, so that deadline is coming up July 14th!
Because of the lack of notification by TDEC, and the fact that updated documents were uploaded by Tinsley on June 28th, we have formally requested an extension on this public commenting period.
With enough comments, TDEC will allow a PUBLIC MEETING on the matter, a forum for YOU to voice YOUR concerns.
While it is expected that the commenting period will be extended, IN THE MEANTIME, even a few comments from YOU citizens should be enough to secure a public hearing.
In general, your personal comments should reflect your personal, legitimate concerns relating to AIR QUALITY.
The EASIEST way to express your comments is to submit them in writing to air.pollution.control@TN.gov
DO NOT CALL, you will be ignored.
You can also write a letter (although our time is short!) and send it to: Ms. Michelle W. Owenby, Director, Division of Air Pollution Control, William R. Snodgrass Tennessee Tower, 312 Rosa L. Parks Avenue, 15th Floor, Nashville, Tennessee 37243
Be sure and reference the correct permit application:

We are developing a more comprehensive view of what the air quality issues are and will provide in the next few days. NEVERTHELESS, please consider the following thoughts to help guide how you compose your email or letter (REMEMBER, it's YOUR PERSONAL, LEGITIMATE CONCERNS):
How does it affect your health? SILICOSIS is a real thing and is permanent without a cure. Fine silica lodges in the lungs and cannot be extracted. If you are already suffering from lung disorders, this certainly can exacerbate it. More information about Silicosis can be found on these links:

How will the Tinsley Sand and Gravel Plant be monitored? (There is currently a Notice of Violation for the water quality . (Division of Water Resources ). Mr. Tinsley failed to provide the most recent quarterly water report.)
How will the Tinsley Sand and Gravel Plant be held accountable?
This is a short clip of the sand plant near Moonie's on a windy day. The clip isn't very good, and it doesn't do the 'sand fog' justice, but this is the kind of thing that will happen.
Blasting today at 5:45pm! Shook several homes in the area and even scared kids playing in their yard!
They're not wasting any time! Is this road even considered usable for heavy trucks and equipment?
The folks on Chevy Rd never even knew this was coming until one of them saw the required sign at the end of this dead-end road!
Tinsley never sought to even discuss it with them. And Tinsley doesn't even live in Grundy County.
As can be seen in the video, the silt fence is down and being ignored, a violation of the TDEC permitting that Tinsley was given.
Michael and Barbara live adjacent to the Tinsley sand plant. Tinsley is blasting and trucking sand and dirt in direct violation of the Grundy County Powers Act of 2019.
No, it's not the same....
