About Tool 1
This interactive data visualization tool displays Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) test scores by St. Louis school districts from 2017-2024. MAP was not administered in 2020, so there are no data for that year. The interactive features of this tool allow users to generate unique visuals by choosing: Grade Level, Content Area, Score Level, and School District.
For Grade Level, there are six grades: 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th.
For Content Area, there are three outcomes: English/Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science. English/Language Arts and Mathematics are assessed at all grades levels, while Science is assessed only in 5th and 8th grades.
For Score Level, there are two outcomes: Proficient or Advanced and Basic or Below Basic. Although MAP scores students into four main categories (Advanced, Proficient, Basic, and Below Basic) these four categories were combined into two for simplicity in displaying the data and ease of interpretation. For an official DESE guide to interpreting these Performance Level Descriptors, click here.
For School District, there are 24 to choose from: Affton, Bayless, Brentwood, Clayton, Ferguson-Florissant, Hancock Place, Hazelwood, Jennings, Kirkwood, Ladue, Lindbergh Schools, Maplewood-Richmond Heights, Mehlville, Meramec County, Normandy, Parkway, Pattonville, Ritenour, Riverview Gardens, Rockwood, St. Louis City, University City, Valley Park, and Webster Groves. In addition, the interactive tool displays Missouri’s state average on each chart that is generated.
In each chart, the years 2020-2022 are shaded and labelled to indicate the period during which the COVID-19 pandemic most disrupted schools. In total, this interactive data visualization tool can generate over 600 unique visuals.
