International Cross Cultural Exchange: We developed a pedagogical approach to language learning at a large public university which used the internet to create and provide access to multiuser, interactive multimedia environments. Foreign language learners in the United States communicated and collaborated with learners in a foreign country; they worked together in their respective language classes to share and compare videos, photos, articles, ideas and cultural perspectives. They contributed to a weekly blog and participated in bi-weekly conversation exchanges via Skype. Apart from gains in cross-cultural awareness, learners also showed oral and written proficiency improvements in their respective foreign languages.
