Second novel in the Verdant series.
The city-satellite Verdant struggles to survive in deep space, not knowing the final condition of an Earth that tried to invade them after the Yellowstone eruption. Verdant Pioneers picks up a year after the events of Verdant Entangled, and explores how humanity would react to the novelty of suddenly having a galaxy to explore at will, while also being cut off from the only planet they know and have a connection with—Earth.
Verdant Pioneers also explores the state of Earth a year after the eruption of the Yellowstone Caldera. This is still an environmental survival story; it has just expanded its environmental field of interest from Earth to include the rest of the galaxy. And to fit the ongoing theme set by Verdant Entangled, this book is primarily about the people and their unique situation, estranged from their mother planet, and begs the question: Should we explore deep space? Is it safe? Can we hope to survive?
This novel will be followed by a conclusion to the Verdant series, presently in development.
