With 10 years of experience in step and developing community and collegiate step teams, I have expanded my passion for reaching the Kansas City area.
Hello, I am Jacquinta Nelson, the Founder and Head Coach of STEP Movement. STEP means Supporting Them Express their Passion. We primarily youth passions for community, collaboration, and creativity through the art of stepping.
We are a community base step team composed of members 4 to 19 years old, bringing the art of step to the Greater Kansas City area through entertainment via performances and education via our curriculum. We strive to raise awareness of the art of stepping in collegiate and career ventures. We pride ourselves on providing our members opportunities for academic support, community services, and mentorship.
History
Jacquinta Nelson is the driving force behind STEP Movement and fulfills the Executive Director position. Jacquinta earned her B.A. degree in Nonprofit Leadership and minors in Communication and Entrepreneurial Leadership from William Jewell College. She has participated in numerous step team since the age of twelve.
As a student at William Jewell College she cofounders the Cardinal Steppers. Upon graduation she pursued a year of public service at City Year Kansas City through AmeriCorps. During this year of service in 2016, she establishes a step club initially with eight participants. They were deemed Magnificent 8 because without them we would not be here.
As the school year continued the club expanded to a team of thirty students, officially becoming Kauffman Steppers. They were deemed Worthy 30 because they set the part of members after them.
The following 2017-2018 school year she created a curriculum for the art of stepping at the Ewing Marion Kauffman School. While teaching the content of step she coached a team of forty students called the Kauffman Steppers. The team performed for the Missouri Charter School Conference. Kauffman Steppers also performed for Teacher for America’s Shark Tank “Teacher’s Edition event in November 2017. They are deemed the Sporty Forty for being the first to sport or show off their talents at Kansas City.
The first tryout for June 2, 2018 at the Southeast Community Center. From the first tryout five founding members were selected as the Fantastic Five. They were deemed Fantastic Five because their bond, commitment, talent, and dedication were unmatched.

STEP Movement, LLC emphasizes the development of well-rounded members. STEP Movement (Supporting Them Express their Passions) is aspiring to serve the Greater Kansas City area.
Kansas City native, Jacquinta Nelson founded the organization with the desire to provide a safe place for our youth. STEP Movement is a safe haven for youth to enhance their confidence and capacity of knowledge. This organization focuses on cultivating youth to express their passion for creativity, community, and collaboration through the art of stepping. In order to do so STEP Movement has selected Kansas City urban youth in which to direct all their efforts. STEP Movement’s target clientele are urban youth ages 5 to 19 years old with the desire to pursue step as an avenue to a purposeful future for themselves and their community.
