Stephen received his B.Med.Sci. degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Southern Medical University, and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), where he was under the supervision of Professor Ho Yin Edwin Chan. He was awarded a Postdoctoral Fellowship under the Clinical Neurosciences program between CUHK and the University of Oxford, where he was mentored by Professor Kevin Talbot. Stephen currently serves as an Assistant Professor at School of Life Sciences and Gerald Choa Neuroscience Institute of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
