I have lived in seven states, studied stories from around the world, performed improv, and now I am preparing to become a certified interpreter. Those experiences taught me to listen closely, adapt quickly, and build meaningful connections across different communities.
I am Stephanie VanDorfy, an interpreting student preparing for certification, and I am excited to carry what I have learned through the ITP and my internships into real-world interpreting settings. I care deeply about people feeling seen, heard, and understood, and that value guides every part of my work.
My background includes studying English and cultural studies, serving a full-time mission, taking on leadership roles, and finding creative expression through theater and improv. Each of these shaped how I communicate, collaborate, and respond in fast-changing moments. More recently, working at a children’s hospital has helped me stay steady under pressure and grow more comfortable in professional medical settings.
Moving often as a child exposed me to many regional cultures, humor, and ways of communicating. It taught me adaptability, empathy, and how to build connections quickly, skills I rely on every day as an interpreter in training.
I bring curiosity, resilience, and a wide range of life experiences to this field. Along with academic training and hands-on experience, I value patience, empathy, and continual growth. As I move toward certification and professional work, I am committed to continuing to learn, serve, and build meaningful connections through interpreting.
