Designing your own salon

You might be in a position to rent a shop to start a hair/beauty business and need to be able to plan and decorate it. You have 2 tasks to complete.

Task 1

Draw a plan of your beauty and hair salon. You will need to think about who will be using the space. Will there be more than one hairdresser, a beautician, a nail technician? Do you need a waiting area or shelves to display products?

Your space should include the following

• Chair for hairdresser (can be more than one)

• Sink or sinks

• Reception area with seating

• Nail bar

• Room for beautician

• Toilet

• Draw as a plan and label everything, this could be written as a 'key' within a separate box

• Draw on paper or on a website such as Smartdraw

Task 2

Create a mood board on Pinterest or Canva

A mood board is where you can put your design ideas down on paper or on an app for the design of your room. It could be that you really like a certain colour or a theme or it could be that you have a photo of something that is important to you.

Your mood board should include the following

• Colour scheme

• Any fabric or wallpaper you would use (photos from websites are good)

• Floor covering - make sure it is practical!

• Style of furniture you would use

• Decorations you would include e.g. plants, pictures, mirrors
