To my favorite EVER,
I have been so excited to write to you since my last postcard. I got your letter in the mail the day before I decided to head to the next location. I am so happy to hear that you are doing great and enjoying life (as much as you can without me there). I am also thrilled to hear OU beat Texas WOOO. I loved all your pictures from the weekend in Dallas too. I have to recap some fun things I did in China before I give my latest story.
1. The cat, we know that was just an unfortunate situation. The parents finally apologized for treating me so rudely and not believing me.
2. I went to the great wall of China. Let me tell you, Gracie, it was HUGE. I know you have showed me pictures but WOW! I took a selfie on the great wall for you
3. I ate a lot of rice and noodles. I am going to be honest; I think I like the Chinese food you get from the sketchy place down the road. Some of the food here tasted too authentic HAHA.
I met the cutest boy. He is about my size, and a brown charcoal lab. He had an accent!!! I met him on the train ride to my hotel. He said he has lived here all his life and he would love to show me around EEEP. I added a picture of him to this postcard. His name is Takeo, which means “warrior hero” in English. You would love him. He said that dogs and cats get along fairly well here. I’LL be the judge of that. Anyways, I am not done writing. I wanted to write down a few things about the new boy! I promise to tell you about any cats I meet up with and all the adventures I have.
That didn’t take long… good thing I saved this to send all together. So, Takeo decided we would go to the Japanese Garden and of course there was a cat festival going on. I might be wrong because there were other animals there, but it was MAINLY cats.
Takeo and I were having quite the time exploring the garden. Then one, very bold cat approached us.
“How are you two dogs surviving in this area full of so many cats?”
“What do you mean?”
“These cats around here have all been quietly talking about how you two are about the only dogs here. There are other animals here but DOGS? What are you thinking??”
I looked at Takeo in shock. The whole time this was happening I was wondering what Takeo was doing, he seemed so smart. I did not think I would be unsafe when I explored with him.
Takeo asked “What should we be worried about? I have lived here all my life. Not once have I heard about cats chasing dogs.”
“Oh boy, plenty of things. Most cats around here are very rude they will chase and/or trick you. I have a secret trick for you. I can show you how to escape these cats if they come for you. Follow me!”
The cat then took us around the back of the garden. He explained that the cats around here have a sensitivity to the barking noises dogs make. Takeo was not worried. His bark was very loud and aggressive so he knew he could keep the cats away.
I was SO excited to finally meet a cat that was friendly and helpful. Takeo and I walked back around to the garden and continued to enjoy the scenery.
None of the cats bothered us the whole time. UNTIL… we left.
Then, as we started to leave the garden, the cats behind us started to chase us. Takeo turned around and started to bark. The cats jumped a little but were not intimidated by the bark at all.
“RUN!!!” Takeo shouted to me.
I remember running as fast as I could but do not remember after. I woke up on Takeo’s couch. My body ached. Takeo was waiting sitting next to me. He explained one of the cats jumped on me while we were running, and I was not able to keep up. He carried me all the way to his home so that I could rest. When I was feeling better, Takeo told me that it took him awhile, but he escaped the cats. He also explained that we were naive in trusting a cat that told us the cats in Japan are tricksters.
Lesson learned. After a few days of resting and relaxing, Takeo showed me around downtown Tokyo. The lights, crowds, and noise were all an experience in itself. I bought you the cutest kimono (that’s what EVERYONE wears here). I plan to spend a little more time here since I think I'm falling in love ;) but I'll update you when anything happens. I can’t wait to see you!
Woof,
Stella
Here is the CUTE boy I met ;) He was sitting up like this when I woke up from my painful rest
Author's Note: For this story, I have taken an old story from the Brother Grimm unit: The Fox and the Cat. This story is about a fox, cat and dog in the woods. The cat approached the fox and asked him a bunch of questions but was curious how he was getting by in these hard times. The cat did not know what he was doing when the dogs would chase him, so the cat wanted to show him how to survive. The cat showed the fox how he jumped into the tree as a group of dogs ran by with their hunter. The fox could not jump like the cat and did not have a way out of the dogs running after him.
For my story, I had originally written something completely different but was trying to find the best story to use. I chose to write my story about just a dog and a cat. I wanted to have one “friendly” cat that then tricked the dog after gaining their trust. I have also had way too much fun adding in my own ideas and plans for Stella's encounters so my story is quite different than original Fox and Cat story.
