The first week was full of confusions, especially in the beginning. But as week progressed things started to become more clear.
Monday:
- Introductions
- Opening presentation by Dr. Popyack: overall goals of the REThink program, overview of the projects included in the program for 2019
- Participants were assigned to create and work on their personal Google websites devoted to their respective projects. Guidelines and minimal requirements for the website were provided
Tuesday:
- Continued to work on the website
- Had a discussion with my team about the project proposal document, which was said to be due by the end of the day on the following Thursday.
- Took a trip to St. Christopher Hospital for Children to meet Dr. Shuping Ge, a pediatric cardiologist who is another faculty mentor of the team. Preliminary discussion of the project's goals and "big picture" design took place.
Wednesday:
- Working on the project proposal
- Presentation by Dr. Popyack on research methodologies and research planning
- Collaborate with my team on project proposal
Thursday:
- Continue modifying the project proposal
- Team meeting with Dr. Popyack. Starts to feel less confused.
- Project proposal document uploaded.
- Informal group discussion of the projects and everybody's roles. An attempt to clarify things and clear confusion.
Friday:
- Presentation on Big Data by Dr. Popyack.
- Team presentations of project proposals. Feedback on proposals was provided.
- Reading journal articles on AI applications (specifically machine learning) in medicine and specifically cardiology.
- Video conference meeting with Dr. Ge. More details about the project discussed. One of the coders on the team (Dennis) is assigned to program an application to collect patients' data from old files.
