The PSAT 8/9 and the PSAT are exams that allow students to practice the format of the college entrance exams. Results from these exams provide students and teachers with data on strengths and areas for growth in students' academic knowledge and skills.
The ACT and the SAT exams may be used in combination with cumulative GPA to determine admission eligibility and merit scholarship awards.
Notes:
For the 2026 admission cycle (and beyond), many schools are remaining test optional. Check this website for information about specific colleges and universities.
There is a growing trend of institutions requesting test scores upon enrollment. The scores are used for academic advisement, course placement, and institutional research.
The SAT is a digital exam.
The ACT will offer digital and paper/pencil versions beginning in April 2025.
