Hello everyone
A reminder our range is CLOSED this Saturday May 17. Enjoy the long weekend!
NO coaching on the range but safety officers will be present on May 20 and May 22.
Outdoor Season started Saturday May 3rd
The new link to the outdoor schedule is available on the website and I have also included it here.
PLEASE use the schedule. Even if the sign in sheets have been printed in advance, we look at who is coming to assist us with setting out butts at the various distances.
Also, we are working towards having covers for all the butts. For the ones that are currently set up with covers, please take down your targets and cover the butts when you are done. If the butt does not have a cover, a 122cm target can be left on the butt to protect it from the sun.
We need approx 4 blank butts between the 50m Bulldogs and the lower side of the field in order to separate the fields. If there is less than 4 butts unused the entire field must move together.
Hours of operation beginning May 3rd:
Saturdays 10am-1pm
Tuesdays 5-8pm
Thursdays 5-8pm
Be prepared for the Outdoor season
Bring your own folding chair
No open toed shoes
Wear a hat for the sun and rain. Jackets that are snug fitting around the sleeves and chest.
Bring your own water, sunscreen and bug spray
Accessible porta potty
We will have shelter set up based on the weather
We shoot in all weather but must discontinue shooting during episodes of thunder/lightning -urgent notices will be sent out on our FB page
Do not leave bowcases on tables. After you have set up, put your bow case on the ground.
Parking is along the roadside with a few spots available in the driveway. DO NOT block access to the laneway as we need room for our para athletes to drive closer to the field
.

Hello everyone!
Our first Indoor tournament of the fall season was very successful. Thank you to those who attended and helped set up and take down.
Our next 18m Round will be held on Dec 15. Flyer is attached. Don't delay as It is already half full.
Our FOCUS this week: We will continue to monitor the shooting line to remind everyone to be staying within their shooting space. Line etiquette is that you do not leave the shooting line if the person beside you is at full draw. When you come off the line you point your bow forward and step straight back watching that your arrows do not catch the person beside you. Also a reminder that Indoors is 3 arrow ends. Unless you have been given permission by a coach to shoot additional arrows (need to finish a score card) please limit your arrows to 3.
Just a reminder that Camp Luther is not available for our use next Tuesday November 12th
STARR Program CLOSURES:
Tuesday November 12th
Note that Dec 5th is now back in the schedule. Please go ahead and sign up.
Beginner Lesson Series:
This is the last week of our Intro to Archery beginner lesson series. The Tuesday group had a scheduling conflict and will be joining the Thursday group this week.
We will use 3 butts on Thursday for the 8 persons attending the Lessons.

We welcome our new participants and I offer some information below that is useful in navigating events in Archery. There are useful links included.
JOP = Junior Olympian program. JOP allows youth to participate in a progressive achievement certificate program at their own pace at the comfort of their own club. Indoor JOP youth will progress through achievement categories based on shooting scores beginning on a larger target and advancing to a smaller target. The Outdoor program is based on distances.
Any tournament that is labelled as JOP, is specific for youth only and does not follow Archery Canada format. Youth compete based on their current competency not based on Archery Canada age/gender/equipment categories. The JOP tournaments are usually held in 3 or 4 areas of BC on the same weekend. Scores are submitted to the JOP Provincial Coordinator.
The JOP offers a Provincial JOP Mail Match. It is open for those archers shooting on a 40cm target. It starts in October and ends in February.
A score is shot at your own club and submitted once a month by each club's JOP Coordinator. (Susan for STARR Archery)
The JOP also offers a JOP Indoor Regionals shot at your own club. This is hosted the first week in February. Scores are submitted to the JOP Provincial Coordinator.
Championships =Any tournament that is labelled as a Championship means that medals/ribbons will be awarded for the top place finishes in the various age-gender-equipment categories.
Indoor 18m round or Outdoor 720 round = These tournaments are training tournaments. They are officially registered with Archery Canada. The scores are submitted to Archery Canada. Athletes can see how they rank across Canada in their age/gender/equipment category.
Mail Match = Scores are shot at your own club and submitted either Provincially (JOP Mail Match) or Nationally (Archery Canada Mail match). Assigned coordinators at each club run these programs during the designated time frames.
It is important for youth to note that the target sizes (Indoors) or distances (Outdoors) may be different based on whether they are competing in a JOP or an event registered with Archery Canada.

Hello everyone
Just a reminder that TONIGHT Tuesday December 19th is our last night of archery before we close for the Holidays.
We will start back up in the new Year on Thursday January 4th.
The two week break is a great time to look over your equipment. Make sure all screws have been tightened, your string is still in good shape, and check all your arrow nocks for damage. Use the time to increase your physical activity!
It is also a good time to set your goals for the upcoming season or year. We need goals to establish training plans. I have attached our goal setting document from the resources section of the STARR website. Work on those over the holidays and show them to us in the new year.
We wish everyone a joyful Holiday Season!

JOP Mail match: You have until the end of Feb to submit your last score for JOP Mail Match to Susan.
Theme for March:
Technical Form: Our focus for the month of March will be the bow hand.
Mental: Once you know what your shot cycle looks like, it is time to develop a focus plan. A focus plan is a few images and/or words and/or sensations that bring your shot together. Having this play in your head while shooting prevents distractions from creeping in.
Planning: Something as simple as planning your practice session is very important to achieve a sense of satisfaction. What technical element will I be working on and what will my arrow volume plan be. Create your practice goals in such a way that you can measure your success.
Physical: All sports need a physical component to prevent injury and to assist with stamina. Cardio (increase to heart rate) training is always beneficial and a great starting point for those who sit a lot at school or work.
Just in case you missed it:
We have made a slight adjustment to our club hours.
Tuesdays remain as 5pm -8pm (clean up starts at 740).
Thursdays change to 4pm-8pm (clean up starts at 740). Coaching does not begin until after 5pm. You are welcome to attend at 4pm if you have your own equipment and can shoot independently.
JOP (BC Archery's youth Junior Olympian Program) continues through the rest of the Indoor season.

As always, Susan and I are available on the range to assist with your success. Please feel free to approach us on the range or by email for the support you need to reach your dreams.
Theme for February:
Technical Form: To continue with body alignment, this month we will focus on your posture. Once again we will capture photos/video of individual athletes from the back elbow view and from the bow side or string side and compare them to pictures we have posted on the bulletin board. We will discuss the findings with you and develop an action plan.
Mental: Knowing what your shot looks like and feels like creates mental calmness. In the evening before bed, relax and see yourself shooting. Feel your hook on the string, feel your muscles moving, engaging and releasing. If you don't know what you are currently doing to create your shot, it is difficult to get back on track if things go off the rails. We have shot cycle documents available at the club and we are happy to take video on your phones.
Planning: We did not have much uptake for goal setting so we would like every athlete to let us know by the end of this month, what competition/training camp or other event they are planning to participate in related to the Indoor season. Knowing your immediate goals will help us support you with appropriate strategies for success.
