History of Production (2021-2022)
This project was a lot of fun and a great learning experience for myself and everyone else on the team. I worked closely with my producer Kayla as she helped keep everyone on track, while I made sure all the visual and auditory details were covered. We got massive support from our teachers/executives Ellie Hebert and Jeffrey Watamura as they foresaw the production of Star Map.
We primarily used Adobe Photoshop and After Effects for animating and compositing, while our editor Devin cut everything together using Avid Media Composer. Including myself, the team had a total of 5 animators, and the rest of the team that had no prior experience to animating worked on foley sound and coloring frames. We even had our own music composer Sam, who we worked closely with to make sure we had the right tone and feel for the film.
After an extensive 6 months of pre-production, production and post, on May 27th, 2022 our academy hosted the Media Arts Showcase event!
The film was played on the big screen at our local theater, and all the other academy seniors were with me while watching our films. It was a really fun experience, and my crew and I were so proud of what we accomplished.
I never knew I was good at directing, let alone writing a story that this many people wanted to see happen. I never expected Star Map to be chosen due to how new the medium was for our class, but I'm so happy that opportunity came about for me to be the person I am today.
I feel like I'm always gushing over the amount of help I got, but it is true! And many of those same people, they are still with me and they want to learn more about what's in store for the story. For me, as someone who struggled so much with finding the right people, the right support groups who genuinely listened to me, those moments and those continuing moments make me so grateful to this day. If you are reading this right now, I love you guys so much ❤
