When a young girl with a magical ability gets taken to the distant moon of Europa, she is trained in the ways of a fighter among others similar to her to conquer planets, unaware of a dark truth hidden behind the walls of the facility.
I will announce updates on the pre-production stages of Moonbeam on my socials (primarily Instagram and TikTok)
Right when I finished the pilot, I started to draw what a young version of Willa would look like. How old would she be? What was she like when she was younger? What could have happened to her?
It went from drawing little sketches, to looking deep within myself and my own history when I was younger. I realized I wanted to tell a story about escaping self-doubt, and finding the good people who see the aspects of yourself that are loved, and should be loved.
This slowly became a very personal story to me, and in a way it's a way for me to let go of those past struggles I experienced. And I want others who've struggled as well to see themselves in this character, because I know there's SO many people out there who feel the same way I felt before.
I just hope this story of mine will be able to help you like it's helped me, these characters have become so special to me and my own experiences. I hope these characters inspire you, like they've inspired me 💫
Clover is a young adult character that Willa looks up to over the course of the film. He's tough, fierce, and VERY stubborn when it comes to getting things done.
His design was something I struggled with for a week, but I knew I wanted him to have more of an alien appearance. It's a story about space, and I didn't want all my characters to end up being human!
Eventually I settled on his final design -- figuring out his name helped a lot too. Clover is a VERY important part of Moonbeam, and one to keep a close eye on...
Fintan is Willa's best friend, and a top student at the Tidal Sector facility. She is favored for her eccentric skills in combat, but can be harsh and straight-forward about her thinking.
If she feels Willa's going down a wrong path, she will step up to ensure she stays by her side, even if that means betraying other's trust.
Out of all the characters, Fintan's design was the hardest for me. There's something very specific about her character I wanted to perfect visually, because there is SO MUCH with Fintan that has to be done right. Overall, after months of trying to draw her I feel confident that I've figured her out.
The main villain of this story, Sir Mallory is the leader and creator of the Moon Children project on the Tidal Sector base. He is neither human nor alien -- but an experiment gone wrong as he takes the final form of an anthropomorphic axolotl.
Despite his bizarre appearance, Sir Mallory is a classical villain that stands with stride and dignity. I had a faint idea of what I wanted Sir Mallory to be, and I knew for a fact that he would have some relation with the the villains of Star Map.
I love his simplistic design, and he is by far the most fun to draw! He's one of the most fascinating villains I've written so far, and as the story goes further along you will see why...
