Our research focuses on:
STAR Lab examines the role of affect and basic emotional processes such as emotional experience and expression, emotion (dys)regulation, repression, and emotional awareness in psychological disorders such as anxiety disorders, depression, and eating disorders. As our emotional processes interact with diverse factors, we also examine our emotional experiences in relation to physical symptoms such as pain. More recently, we are examining the use of social media and its interaction with adaptive and maladaptive functioning, particularly in the realm of body image and disordered eating. We hope to examine how early childhood adversity and experience of trauma interplay with adaptive and/or maladaptive use of social media.
