After you apply you'll be contacted by our administrators to let you know if you've been accepted to write with us. If you have not been accepted, you can request the reasons why you were rejected and appeal for reapplication. If you are accepted, you'll be contacted and an email thread will be started discussing character creation. This includes names, ranks, positions, etc. Depending on our needs and your desires, not everyone will be starting at the lowest rank, unless you want to. Some people like playing "lower deckers" and that's fine. In world promotions only ever really happen to facilitate the story and should be something in the background of your writing as we would like to focus on the writing first. Another thing you'll be asked to provide is a faceclaim for your character. We keep character dossiers on the website so people can read about them and learn who they are.
Once your character is fleshed out a little bit, you'll be given access to our Google Group and can begin posting.
One question you may have is if you need to know anything about the Romulan language. You do not. Ranks are outlined elsewhere on this site and many things with Romulan names have a translation next to them on the site and in posts. It is assumed that Romulans speaking to Romulans in world, are speaking Romulan. And when speaking to Federation species, Federation Standard. The only time it may be applicable is dealing with a species a character is not familiar with and not speaking Federation Standard. Even then, you do not have to write dialogue in Romulan, just adding a note at the beginning of the post that they are speaking it. If you would like to use the Romulan language peppered in your posts to help with immersion, we recommend going here.
Understanding the year in which our world takes place is simple. Commonly, it is considered that if you take the current year, 2023, and the most current Prime Timeline year, 2400, you run them congruent. Since the Romulans would likely use their own calendar and they settled Romulus roughly between 200-300 CE by the Terran Calender, we subtract 200 from the Prime Timeline year. Note that we don't often use dates in our posts but if it is needed, a modification of the commonly used system for stardates, adjusted for the Romulan calendar could be used. Example would be 12-23-2022 would be written as 219912.23. Just add 177 to the current real world year.
