November 6, 1940 – January 18, 2025
Stanley Wynter was born on November 6, 1940, in Berbice, Guyana. From a young age, he developed a deep passion for sailing, which inspired him to pursue studies in navigation at the Nautical Institute in Canada. As a skilled captain, Stanley began his career sailing on the Federal Palm and Federal Maple passenger ships throughout the Caribbean. To advance his career, he served as a Harbor Pilot in Curaçao, Jamaica, Aruba, Trinidad, and Bonaire.
In 1979, Stanley was recruited by the National Port Authority in Monrovia, Liberia, where he served as a Captain and Pilot in the Port of Greenville, Sinoe County. On April 13, 1980, he married Felicia Sherman.
Due to the Liberian civil war, Stanley relocated his family to the United States in 1990. To support them, he resumed his maritime career, first with Hyde Shipping Company in Florida and later with Techmarine Lines.
Even after decades at sea, Stanley's commitment to his craft endured. At the age of 70, he returned to Liberia to work with APM Terminal Services in Monrovia, ensuring safe navigation until his final retirement in 2017.
Stanley’s life took a meaningful turn when he embraced the moral teachings and love exemplified by Jehovah’s Witnesses. On January 31, 2021, he symbolized his dedication to his faith through baptism.
Stanley is survived by his wife of 44 years, Felicia Wynter; his three daughters, Deborah Wynter, Rosalyn Wynter, and Pamela Brown; and his two sons, Dennis Wynter and Malcolm Wynter. He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Xavier Wynter, Daren Greene-Wynter, Leslie Greene-Wynter, Lleyton Wynter, Alina Wynter, and Felicia Wynter. Additionally, he is survived by his siblings, Pamela Grainger, Rosey Wynter, Nathaniel Wynter Jr., Joules Wynter, Claire Wilson, and Dennis Wynter. He was predeceased by his brothers, Gordon Wynter and Desmond Wynter, and his sister Loleta Wynter-Charles.
Though our beloved Captain has sailed his final voyage, his memory will forever be anchored in our hearts. Fair winds and following seas, Captain. Until we meet again.
