Scenic pieces are much more than places for actors to stand, sit, dance, or fall upon. The scenery provides environment and mood they also make the stage more interesting to look at! The scenery can bring the show to the next level, it is what turns a script reading into a production.
Picture this; Your friends invited you to a play that they are really excited for you. Even though you're not sure what it is about agree to go. The lights dim the curtains open on an empty stage with 1 actor monologuing. You're already lost because all you know about this show is from the current dialogue, playbill, and friend's rambling. Now imagine the stage if skillfully decorated, it would be much easier to imersere yourself in the story because you would not need to decode it as much.
