Mathematical and Computer Sciences Building

The Mathematical Sciences and Computer Science building, which opened in 2021, is in Upper Mountjoy. Alongside lecture and tutorial rooms, the building has lots of communal space to encourage staff and students to interact with each other.

MCS001, the largest lecture theatre, is next to the main entrance (pictured), and alongside the café. From the rear/car park entrance, walk straight forward and down the stairs: you'll see the café and MCS0001 on your right.

Airports/International

Newcastle Airport is about 25 miles away from Durham University. The airport is served by the Tyne and Wear metro, which connects it to Newcastle train station. From there, there are regular trains to Durham.

Direct trains run between Durham and Manchester Airport several times a day. Journeys are around two hours.

Direct trains to Edinburgh and London are frequent, and take around three hours.

Train/Bus

Durham is well served by trains along the East Coast Mainline, as well as regional express bus services and the local bus network. From the city bus station - a short walk from the railway station - a bus service runs every 15 minutes past the Colleges on South Road.

Car

There is a large carpark at the rear of the building. This can be accessed via either the main car entrance from Stockton Road, or via Hollingside Lane (following signs to the botanic gardens). Please contact us to request a parking permit if you would like to arrive by car.
