Stacey Cervellino Thorp is a movement and acting teacher, actress, singer, writer, and director.  She received her M.F.A. in Acting from Brandeis University, her B.A. from Union College, and studied Classical Acting at LAMDA in London and at the Globe Theatre.   She has studied Action Theater with Ruth Zaporah since 2000.  

As a performer she has been seen in plays and musicals in New York, Chicago, Toronto, Washington D.C., and Boston.  

Former Artistic Director of Isadora Productions, her work was featured in American Theater Magazine. With Isadora Productions, Stacey conceptualized, performed and toured the original piece , called Becoming Natasha, based on the novel The Natashas by journalist Victor Malarek.  BN explored Human Trafficking and the sex industry and made its New York debut at The Culture Project, NYC.  The piece was developed with the help of Safe Horizons, the FBI, the UN, and Amnesty International.  With the help of several of her classmates at Brandeis, Stacey created the all female show DRESS based on a 1950s home economics textbook which premiered at the American Living Room Festival at HERE Performance Space.  Through several development workshops, Stacey created the script and music for a social satire about the hysteria of the Cold War 1950's, Dreaming of the Atom Bomb.   

She has collaborated several times with 277 Dance Company, as an actor and co-director as well as creating the text, soundscapes, voice overs, video, and physical movement for 3 devised dance theater pieces: I Forget, Run, Run, As Fast as You Can, and This is Heaven to Me. She also worked with 277 to create the concept and voice over for Thank You for Holding for the Dance Now Festival at Joe’s Pub in Fall 2014.  Stacey recently adapted the novel How to Make an American Quilt for the stage, which had its world premiere in 2017.  She designed the video and sound and directed Quilt.  

She has received work and study grants to take Master Classes with her physical theater teachers Ruth Zaporah and Sarah Hickler, to study at Shakespeare’s Globe Theater, and to study voice with with Jonathan Hart at the Roy Hart Theater in France.  Stacey also received a grant from the Fund for Contemporary Artists to bring Becoming Natasha and her methods for devising work to The International Theater Methods Festival in Riga Latvia.  

Stacey has taught in private and public schools across Manhattan, in the beautiful wilderness of the Northern Kingdom of Vermont,  and in various MFA and BFA programs across the country.  She was a member of the acting faculty at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for Music and Art and the Performing Arts  for almost 10 years, where she directed and taught all levels of Acting, Movement for the Actor, Action Theater, Yoga and Mindfulness, Devised Theater, and Shakespeare and Heightened Text.    

She completed a 200 hour Mindfulness and Yoga Training in August, 2018 and  this year will become a certified teacher of BodyMind Dancing and Action Theater.
