Do you or someone you know have a smart phone, but need help getting online? Stockport Council have a digital champion service.
If you have access to a smartphone, tablet or computer, but need help getting online for the first time, Stockport council have set up a Digital Skills Helpline for Stockport residents for telephone support from a Digital Champion.
You can access support by calling 07537 127 095 Monday – Friday. Leave your name, number and a brief description of your need on their answerphone and they will put you in contact with a volunteer digital champion. There is no charge for this service.
To join a zoom video call from a computer
You don’t need to install anything to use these, it can all be done through your internet browser. The person who you want to speak to just needs to make sure they have an account as well. They can then send you a link to join a video chat.
Remember: Only click links from people you know and trust. It’s always worth double checking with them that they have sent you a link.
Receiving a video call on Zoom. To use zoom, the best experience is to download the app (phone or tablet) or software to your computer, in advance. You don't need an account though.
Click on the link your contact has sent you. Wait until a box comes up, saying zoom and other instructions.
Click ‘join' to join the video call.
To end the call, click the red phone icon or close the browser window.
Some people tell us that Zoom works best with Google Chrome browser. If you're using another browser (such as safari) it might be worth trying to download Chrome as a browser and using that.
