Synthesis Map Expo 2022 (#2), Strategic Foresight and Innovation program

July 11 (the second Monday of the month) was the 102nd meeting for Systems Thinking Ontario. The registration was at https://synthesis-maps-2022-july.eventbrite.ca

Every year Systems Thinking Ontario hosts a series of summer evening events for presentations of synthesis maps (complex systems maps) created in systemic design courses in OCAD University graduate programs.

Synthesis maps are rich visualizations that illustrate the real-world complexity of systemic challenges, and typically used to not only “map system problems” but to propose design recommendations for systems change and policies (from health to public policy, from service experiences to social change) from evidence gathered in stakeholder research. Policymakers and organizational stakeholders use synthesis maps for strategic advising, long-term planning, and considering interventions for social and systemic challenges (wicked problems).

The second session of the mapping expo includes:

  • Systems of Information Dissemination
How the control and manipulation of information helps to maintain control, influence and money (available post-meeting on Youtube)

  • Colouring Outside the Lines: Art and the NFT Ecosystem (available post-meeting on Youtube)

  • Citizen Voice in Decision Making: Exploring the power of dialogue in Toronto’s public spaces (available post-meeting on Youtube)

Expo #1 (June) presentations included the following, now on video:

  • Why Not In Our Backyards? System mapping for solutions to Toronto Housing (available post-meeting on Youtube)

  • Envisioning a Decentralized Financial Future (available post-meeting on Youtube).

  • Imagine if... Education was focused on human development (available post-meeting on Youtube)
