JOIN US FOR WORSHIP SERVICE SUNDAYS AT 9:30 A.M.
WORLD COMMUNION SUNDAY – Next week, Sunday, October 5, is World Communion Sunday, which is a day to celebrate our unity in Christ with reformed churches from around the world. We remember that it is Jesus Christ who unites us as One Body in Christ. We will gather at the Lord’s Table with our brothers and sisters around the world.
UPCOMING POTLUCK IN OCTOBER – We are glad as folks return to the desert, that we can begin Potlucks and meals together! The first one is scheduled for October 19th, after worship. Sign ups will begin next week so that we have a good selection to offer. Whether you bring food or not, everyone is welcome to stay for the food and good conversations around the tables. (Please note this is mid-month and not the last Sunday of October.) And - in November, we will be having a chili lunch for all!
WOMEN’S BRUNCH INVITATION – We are glad to have a morning to gather with our own Estelle Shanley, who will be sharing some of her life stories growing up in Ireland, and of her career as a "female" journalist in the Boston area for many years. She has many entertaining things to tell! Come for a breakfast brunch on Saturday, Sept. 27th at 9:00 a.m. in our Fellowship Hall. Dawn Gummer will cook and Pastor Julie will M.C. the event.
IN MEMORIUM – With great sadness we share that Jeff DeBeck passed away on September 18th after a brief illness at JFK Hospital. He served as our Sexton for many years, and was a vital part of our Chancel Choir. He also sang with the Jocelyn Singers here in the Coachella Valley and gave of his time to local organizations helping those with food insecurity. He and his wife Annie met while performing at the Date Festival many years ago. We will miss his love of the Lord and his love for this church community. Our prayers are with the entire DeBeck family. Memorial plans are pending for later in October.
CHANCEL CHOIR – Begins this month! Regular rehearsals will be at 4:15 p.m., and Bell choir will also rehearse at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome!
UPCOMING ADULT C.E. CLASS – This Sunday after worship, our C.E. class on the book, “Why: Making Sense of God’s Will” by well-known UMC pastor and author Rev. Adam Hamilton, will conclude. Today’s topic is “Why God’s Love Prevails.” Join us! We’ve had lively discussions.
