NYLA/SSL Strategic Vision – November 2022

This is to be reviewed by the Board annually and used to focus our organizational work throughout the year. This document is not static, but will be altered as conditions change.

Vision

NYLA/SSL empowers school librarians as leaders and advocates for equitable access to certified school librarians. 

Mission Statement

NYLA/SSL provides leadership opportunities and professional development focusing on equity, diversity, and inclusion while engaging and collaborating with school librarians and educational partners, promoting excellence and advocacy. 

Strategic Vision

NYLA/SSL advocates for the school library community and program, ensuring growth within the field of school librarians, and continues to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion for all.   

AASL Common Beliefs

1. The school library is a unique and essential part of a learning community.

2. Qualified school librarians lead effective school libraries.

3. Learners should be prepared for college, career, and life.

4. Reading is the core of personal and academic competency.

5. Intellectual freedom is every learner’s right.

6. Information technologies must be appropriately integrated and equitably available.
