This school year has been a year of challenged and removed books from school libraries and classrooms. We work every day with the students who are caught in the controversies, especially students of color, students who are learning about their own or friends’ gender identities and students who need to learn about the true history and culture of our country.
At this institute, our speakers and interactive discussions will examine how school librarians can encourage a love of reading, knowledge of students’ own and other cultures that make up our country, and teach students the critical thinking skills they need to be strong learners and citizens.
