Today's plan was to go cave tubing and rainforest ziplining with our guide Jimmy then have a quick lunch and hop on a water boat to take us to an island called San Pedro.
On the way to cave tubing our guide jimmy explained about this small country of Belize. Belize had gotten independence from the British in 1973. Uptil 1973 Belize was called British Honduras, but they legally changed their name to Belize after Peter Wallace after the first European to step foot on Belizean soil. Since the people couldn't pronounce Wallace they called him, Peter Belize instead.
Coming to a stop at the edge of the rainforest we rented out Crocs,if you are going cave tubing bring crocs and wear a swimsuit or clothes you don't mind getting wet. To buy tickets for cave tubing click here. We trudged across the gravel pathway and got to our first river, the rivers are very clear you can swimming in this first river. I merrily enjoyed how the fish would swim beside my legs. We waded across two more rivers playing with the fish and taking in all the towering trees in the rainforest. In Chicago and New York you feel small looking up at the city's buildings, but in the rainforest I felt small looking at the towering trees and Jimmy told us that in the "morning the rainforest looked beautiful with not many animals lurking in the trees. In the night he continued you could see jaguars and many other creatures coming out.
Floating down the river.
Inside the cave.
Once we got to the cave site we explored the water before getting into our tubes. The tubes were rubbery and squishy the kids whose buts aren't as big enough to fit in the tubes that were blue didn't have a rubber bottom were given pink ones that had rubber bottoms and were pink. So, as you can assume me and my brother got the pink ones. The fun things I thought about the blue tubes were whenever a rock or the area was shallow you would have to lift your butt to avoid touching it. I was expecting to see bats when we floated inside the cave, but I saw less animals and more rock formations looking like animals or some other shape. If you go cave tubing don't try to get of your tube because the water is about 30 ft to 45 ft deep. The experience of this cave tubing was truly amazing we even saw one of those sights when the cave ceiling collapses and plants grow on it.
Zip Lining I would say it was a little nerve wracking for me because we were zipping through canopies and over rivers. My brother and cousins thought it was fun from the start. And I have to admit once I got over my fear looking down from the canopies and seeing the rainforest above was a thrilling experience. For zip lining click here. At first you don't start out that high then the fun starts to begin and the zip lining coaches take you higher and higher!
After fun zip lining we ended the day by taking the water taxi and going to our resort in San Pedro called Corozal. We got food from a restaurant called Lone Star the food at lone star contains delicious mexican and belizean food filled with rich spices.
