The official seal of St. Rita’s College of Balingasag is characteristically Marian. The central motif is the Ave Maria – AM stands for Ave Maria or Hail Mary, an ejaculatory praise to Mary. The Mother of God, and the Patroness of the RVM Congregation.
The crescent moon accents the Ave Maria, another symbol of Mother Mary. The moon symbolizes Mary’s humility and obedience. The sun represents Jesus as the Son of Justice, while the moon represents Mary which emanates its mellow light only because Jesus, her God and Son, makes her shine.
The twelve stars presented in the vision of St. John in which “a great sign in heaven appeared, a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, on her head a crown of twelve stars,” represent the twelve extraordinary graces or privileges bestowed on Mary.
Below the monogram is a very significant figure of an open book upon which inscribed the revealed Word of God --- Initium Sapientiae Timor Domini. --- The English translation which is “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”
Immediately below the book is the white sampaguita flower, the national flower of the Philippines. It stands for the congregation of the Religious of the Virgin (RVM), the first Filipino Congregation founded by a Filipina, Venerable Ignacia del Espiritu Santo.
