A great way to recycle language is through pictures taken during class. In this video I demonstrate how to set up a Class Photographer and give some advice to get the best pictures to promote your program.
See examples below.
Job #1 - Student photographer - This student takes a picture with your iPad/Camera or their own (check with your school’s handbook or administration first.) They then immediately send it your email. They should be trained to find the most interesting moments (action, props, etc), and they should stand up and move to the best spot for the picture.
Getting good pictures from your classroom is great for two reasons. First, the next day you can show the picture to the class and re-tell the story, laughing at the ridiculous prop or student acting. Often I write a one sentence summary of the action from the picture that we read together. This reinforcement of the language will benefit students especially your slower processors.
The second benefit to good classroom pictures is PR for your program. I print these pictures out and place them in the hallways around my classroom. I love to hear students translate the captions to their non-Spanish speaking friends or their parents during conferences. If permissible with administration, you can post these pictures to social media. In this way you develop a much more interesting social media account than most teachers and certainly way more interesting than the foreign language teacher working on possessive pronouns on page 34 of the textbook.
