Data Entry

To manage the quantitative data, it has to be entered into a statistical software. Most of the statistical packages such as SPSS, SAS and STATISTICA are able to handle large dataset.

Most of the statistical packages such as SPSS, SAS and STATISTICA have a format similar to spreadsheet packages for data entry.

Data entry in SPSS

There are two ways to open the data spreadsheet in SPSS:

Open SPSS, at the welcoming dialog box, double click on NEW DATASET
Open an existing SPSS data file under FILE - NEW - DATA.

Data Entry in Microsoft Excel

In SPSS, go to File: Open, Data
Change the “Files of file type” box to “Excel (*.xls)”
Select the spreadsheet name as you have given in Excel
When the Opening Excel Data Source box appears, check the box for Read variable names from the first row of data, and then click OK
When the data appears in the SPSS data editor spreadsheet, Choose File, Save as and leave the Save as type box to SPSS (*.sav)
Enter the name of the file without the .sav extension and then click Save to save the file in SPSS format
