Book Activities
Penguin and Pinecone
Students will read the book called, Penguin and Pinecone.
With this activity, students will create a penguin using a pinecone as the body.
You will need a pinecone, 2 googly eyes, glue, scissors, orange feather, and orange and yellow construction paper.
Students will take their pinecone and glue on the eyes to the front of the pinecone.
Students will cut out their penguin’s nose with the yellow construction paper.
Students will cut out their penguin’s feet with the orange construction paper.
Students will glue on their penguin’s nose under their eyes.
Students will glue on their penguin’s feet at the bottom of their penguin.
Students will glue on their orange feathers to serve as the scarf.
Penguin and Ollie
Students will read the book called, Penguin and Ollie.
With this activity, students will get to share what their treasure is.
You will need a small container, paper, scissors, and a pencil for this activity.
Students will be given a small container to serve as their treasure chest.
Inside their container, students will write on their paper what treasures they have in their life. (this can be people, objects, materials, etc.) These things must be things or people that are important to them. They are their treasure.
Students will cut out each of their treasures (words) and put them in the container.
After the students put all their treasure in their “chest” (which is the container), the students can share with the class their treasures.
Found
Students will read the book called, Found.
In this activity, students will get to create their own bunny.
You will need a paper plate, cotton squares, 2 googly eyes, glue, and pink paper.
Students will cut the pink paper to make ears.
Students will cut the pink paper to make a small heart for the nose.
Students will glue the white cotton squares on the paper plate.
Students will glue the googly eyes on top of the cotton balls.
Students will glue their nose on.
Students will glue their ears on.
Students will now have a bunny that looks just like the one Bear found in the story.
Be A Friend
Students will read the book called, Be A Friend.
With this activity, students will color and draw their ideal outfit to wear. The students get to share how they express themselves and be different, just like Dennis in the story.
You will need crayons, a pencil, and a piece of paper to complete this activity.
Students will color and draw their clothing how they want to. This allows them to express themselves and share what they like.
My Kite is Stuck! And Other Stories
Students will read the book, My Kite Is Stuck!
In this activity, students will learn how to create their own kite.
You will need paper, wooden craft sticks, yarn, crepe paper, and tape
Students will fold their paper. They will have their paper folded at the top two corners.
Then, students will put their wooden stick down the middle of the paper. They will tape the stick down.
Students will then tape the two folded ends down.
Students will use a second stick across their paper and tape it down.
Students will tie their yarn where their sticks cross in the middle tightly.
Students will then tie their crape paper to the bottom of their stick and the bottom of their kite.
