The Roots of Rap
Students will read The Roots of Rap written by Carole Boston Weatherford.
After reading, students will pick 3 terms to draw and bring to life.
Next, students will write a sentence or two showcasing relevant figures and things that point to the term.
My Block Looks Like
Students will read My Block Looks Like written by Janelle Harper.
After reading, children can draw their block.
Next, they can draw on another piece of paper improvements to their block (examples: more trees, more police, more animals).
Kick Push
Students will read Kick Push by Frank Morrison.
After reading, students will customize a printed-out skateboard.
Then, students can draw what skills they would do on their skateboard.
Finally, all students put their skateboards up on a large printed skatepark.
Harlem at Four
Students will read Harlem at Four by Dr. Michael Datcher
After reading, students can draw and caption their own experiences and surroundings at age 4.
Then, students can go back into a year of their choice in their hometown and pick a significant person and illustrate an event that took place because of this person.
Standing in the Need of Prayer
Students will read Standing in the Need of Prayer by Carole Boston Weatherford.
After reading, students will write 5-10 kinds of people who are in need of a prayer or help and drop them in a box.
Then, students will read the list of people out loud.
