Under My Hijab
Activity 1:
After reading the book, students will design a book cover from their understanding of the book, their favorite part, or important part of the book.
Have students write the author's name on the bottom of the book cover and print their name for the illustrator. This will make students think of the book in deeper meaning.
Materials:
White construction paper or print out the image on the right

Crayons

Activity 2:
After reading the book, students will try to style their own hijab in a creative way.
A scarf will be passed out to all students.
Materials:

Activity 1:
After reading, students will arrange skittles in a circle on the outer curve of a plate.
Next, carefully pour warm water into the middle of the plate so that the sweets are half submerged.
Finally, watch as the color of the sweets slowly starts to creep towards the middle of the plate, making an amazing rainbow.

A bag of Skittles

Activity 2:
After reading, students will search on Google for different henna designs that they may like.
Next, students will create their own henna body art by tracing their hands and forearms on a white piece of construction paper.

Computers (to google images of henna body art)

Activity 1:
After reading the book, group students into groups of 4
Have students discuss what they think the message in the story is.
Have each group share what they have discussed to the whole class.
Finally, have students talk about what traditions their family take part in.
Activity 2:
After reading, students will design superhero masks and capes.
Use string to let students put the mask on their face.

Zara's Rules For Record-Breaking Fun
After reading, students will brainstorm ideas for unique records to try to break. For example, the longest to hop on one foot. This gives students a chance to be creative and let their imaginations run wild. Students should come up with 3 records to try to break.
Students should be placed into groups of 4. Each group will be required to keep track of times in a journal.
Each group will record each student's record into a journal as they attempt to break each other's record.
At the end of the activity, each person will write a response based on how they did, what they would change for next time, something they could have done better, and something that they like that they did.

Activity 1:
After reading, have students create a collage that represents Deena's character traits based on what they have read. Students can use magazines, things from home, or draw their own illustrations.

After reading, students will design a new outfit for Deena that reflects things she is interested in or based on her personality.
After, students can have a mini fashion show to show off their creations.

Writing Prompts For Students Grades 4-6
Activity 1:
After reading, students will consider how Amina's experience is similar to their own life: ("Are there moments in your own life where you have faced similar challenges where you had to find strength to overcome the obstacle?")
Ask students to consider the significance of Amina finding her voice, through singing and growing in her ability to advocate for herself: ("How does this help her conquer her challenges?")
Project for Students Grades 3-5
Activity 2:
After reading, have students create a storyboard that illustrates the main points from Amina's Voice.
Use the blank boxes to draw the scene and use the lines to describe what is happening in the scene. Be sure to focus on important events in the story such as conflicts and character development.
Super You! Power of Invisibility
Project For Students Grades 3-6
After reading, students will create their own comic strips inspired by the characters and themes in Super You! Power of Invisibility.
Students can choose their own superhero and characters for their comic.
