TRACK AND FIELD & CROSS COUNTRY
Learn more about the Track, and Cross Country clubs here at St. Peter's Catholic High School.
Track & Field is a sport that encompasses various events based on running, jumping, and throwing. Meets generally take place on an oval track, with field events taking place in designated areas adjacent to the track. The sport requires a combination of speed, strength, agility, and endurance, and athletes compete individually or as part of a team. Track and field is often regarded as the most universal of all sports, as it is practiced in nearly every country in the world and is a key feature of the Summer Olympic Games.
Cross country is a sport that involves running races over natural terrain, typically through parks, forests, or other outdoor settings. Courses can vary in length and difficulty, and may include hills, mud, water crossings, and other obstacles. The sport requires a combination of endurance, speed, and technique, with runners needing to pace themselves over the course as they navigate the terrain. Cross country races may be run individually or as part of a team, with team scores based on the finishing positions of the team members. The sport is often seen as a test of mental and physical toughness, with runners pushing themselves to their limits over the challenging route.
FACILITIES
Our teams enjoy training and competing at numerous different locations throughout the competitive season. You can find us anywhere from our home turf to the Lion's Den all year round!
St. Peter's CHS: Our home track comprises of a 400m gravel track, two large grass fields, as well as a designated jump area. Training, and practices take place primarily in the Fall (XC), and in the Spring (Varsity T&F) with frequent indoor training sessions in one of our two fitness centers.
Louis-Riel Dome: Our neighbors from the West of Ottawa home a magnificent athletic temperate dome sheltered from rain, mosquitoes, and extreme weather conditions. Their three synthetic grass fields, high jump and long jump areas, as well as their 400m rubber track hosts our practice sessions in the Winter (Showcase Team).
Terry Fox Athletic Facility: Home to the largest and most successful track & field club in Canada, this stadium is a hotspot for all things track and field. Our Knights find themselves competing several times a year on their 400m rubber track, jump runways, and throwing circles (T&F), as well as on the beautiful terrain of the surrounding community (XC).
