Our Varsity XC Team is a group of student-athletes who compete in cross country running at a competitive level on behalf of our school, St. Peter's Catholic High School. Cross country running is a long-distance running sport that takes place on natural terrain such as grass, dirt trails, and hills. Team members are selected through tryouts, and based on their performance in previous seasons. They are expected to maintain a high level of physical fitness and participate in regular practices and training sessions to improve their skills and prepare for competitions. Mental toughness is also key, as cross country races often cover distances of 4 kilometers or more, and can be physically and mentally demanding. In addition to athletic success, our athletes are expected to maintain high academic standards and represent our school with integrity and sportsmanship.
The team competes against other schools, and clubs in meets, both at the regional, and . These competitions are typically held at the Hornet's Nest in Gloucester, and the Terry Fox Athletic Facility at Mooneys Bay with the exception of OFSAA Track and Field Championships. Athletes are typically scored based on their individual performance in each event, and the team's overall score is calculated based on the performance of all its members.
The team typically consists of a wide variety of skill levels, from beginners to elite athletes. They are coached by an experienced staff member who designs training plans, advises on nutrition and injury prevention, and provides guidance and motivation to the runners.
