1910 Spirit Lake Railway Depot

Although in 1910 Spirit Lake was thought of as "a Spokane summer resort," people have come from all over the country and Canada to enjoy the clear lake and lovely mountains.

This hillside view of the I&WN Railroad shop complex shows how it looked shortly after construction in 1908. The large building in the center is the machine shop. To the right is the coal and sand dock, to the left is the office and storage building, and the round house. Stacked sheets of lumber can be seen in the foreground near the treeline.

The interior of the roundhouse had nine stalls for locomotives.

The Spirit Lake Depot was designed by Kirtland Cutter, who also designed the Davenport Hotel in Spokane. The same plan was used for a depot in Wallace, Idaho which is still standing today.
