In 2025, SPIN was started to help nursing educators develop English for Nursing Purposes (ENP) undergraduate course curricula with authentic and communicative simulated tasks and effective evaluation methods. The vision is for student nurses to use English with a Simulated Patient (SP) whom they have never met. Tasks can be developed so that students can prepare language and practice in advance, but they need to take notes of the patient information. They need to clarify and interact to gather information and complete basic nursing tasks. Furthermore, tasks can be combined so that nursing students can support their patient through multiple role-plays and give them explanations, understand their concerns, and give them advice. It can be a challenge for the students, but the aim is for experiential learning, getting feedback from their peers and the patient, and reflecting on their achievements to gain confidence. Furthermore, they can use their patient information to give a case presentation or patient handover to another healthcare worker. We hope to support student nurse development and help them realize their potential. Through this, healthcare for patients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds can be enhanced.
